Hey folks. Here's a window into my academic and professional journey. Most of the content you're seeing here is from this past week as me and the crew have some of our first experiences living aboard tallships and sail vessels, building up our certificates to achieve our RYA Yachtmaster Coastal qualification. This has been supported with elite guidance and resources from the turntostarboard charity. They provide life-changing support for service members, reservists, and their loved ones affected by military operations. We are blessed to experience their staff's unmatched wealth in knowledge, skills, and prowess as instructors. It's been an awesome experience in achieving our first piece: Competent Crew. This is part of a larger journey us eight students are embarking on with Falmouth Marine School: the FdSc Superyacht Engineer Programme. A new course catered to deliver broad range of qualifications, experience, and support to make achievements both in the luxury and broader marine sector. We learnt and demonstrated an immense amount of new knowledge in mere week, all crucial in being a valuable crew member on a sail vessel: Tide, Weather, Wind Awareness, Sail Management, Helmsmanship, Charts, Ropes - Lines - Sheets - Halyards, 'Rules of the Road', Keeping Watch, Tacking - Gybing, Anchoring, Buoyage, Coming Alongside.. so so much and more. Our two teams demonstrated these skills in a hundred-mile journey. These included a bit of friendly competition and stunning trips to Fowey and down the Helford River. All the excitement of racing in excellent sailing conditions finally made me seasick, I felt fantastic afterwards. Shared some photos for your enjoyment. ❤️ On the personal side, some of you may know me as a less-travelled person with an appreciation for wildlife and scenery. I was in complete awe the entire time. We witnessed so much I had never seen up close - even dolphins. I have so much appreciation to go out to so many amazing people only 3 weeks into this experience proper. A huge thanks to Turn To Starboard's staff and their instructors who I've worked alongside thus far - Phil and Dan. Lots of love to Martin from FMS and the_om_uk.

1st October 2024 Nice early morning watching the sun come up, and we set sail to Fowey, the weather seemed to be treating us lovely until 12:00 where massive rain clouds hit us so we decided to tack around to dodge the heavy rain. Luckily that worked for the most part with the obvious bit of drizzle. We’re now on our way back to Fowey for the night. I’ve learnt lots already! Just today we’ve learned tacking, gybing, wind awareness, 2 point fix, how to adjust sail trim, pilotage, how to reef and lots more. Yet again another great day with turntostarboard

2nd October 2024 Early morning like usual, lovely calm but cold morning! We said goodbye to Firebird who rafted up next to us last night with the other half of the crew onboard. We set off and practiced Man Over Board drills and how to Wing on Wing. We also put the pole for the jib out as the wind was behind us, so we set up the sails to use for acceleration. On our journey back we came across some friendly dolphins who podded alongside us for a minute. As the evening was coming to an end onboard, my mustangsurvival life jacket deployed as I accidentally caught it on a shroud line which deployed the life jacket.😅woops…
